The brown ales of Merry Old England are a delight to the palate and to the eye. The rich brown color and malty flavor are perfect for a blustery day indoors. Northern brown ales are not as sweet and caramel as the brown ales of London, which gives them better drinkability. Some recipes are described as nutty, but there are no nuts involved, it is purely due to the toasty sweet, cookie-like flavor of the malts.
